Haunted House

Even with lights on, this can be scary for some grade ones. In the past there have been images of blood and knives. Please let me know if you do NOT wish your child to go in.

TO ALL FAMILIES FROM THE NOTRE DAME STUDENT COUNCIL,

There will be a haunted house on Thursday morning, October 31.
Classes will be called down one by one, and will walk through the haunted house in small groups.
The primary grades will go in with the lights on, and the atmosphere will be less frightening.  Grades 3-6 will be able to choose between lights on or the full effect of a “spooktacular” haunted house.
Students can choose not to participate in this event or leave at any point throughout it (with the help of guides to lead them out).
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
We look forward to an awesome haunted house, and Happy Halloween!!

Sincerely,

Notre Dame Student Council

Phonics Review – Letter Sounds, Digraphs and Blends

You can never know your letter sounds too well!  If you are looking for some screen time that is educational and age appropriate, please consider looking up some videos that will help your child review letter sounds (including vowel sounds), digraphs (when 2 letters combined make a new sound like “sh” “th” and “ch”), as well as blends (such as “pl, bl, sl, gl, br, gr, tr, etc).

Here are a few suggestions:

Jack Hartmann: What Letter Is It?

Kids TV 123: The Letter Sound Song

Scratch Garden: The Vowel Song, Long and Short Vowels

Fun Kids English: Digraphs Song

AlphaBlocks: Letter Teams CH and TH

Thanksgiving Celebration

Tomorrow (Friday October 11) at 10am, we will have a short Thanksgiving Celebration in our gym as a school. Our class will be leading our school in a song “Thank you, Jesus.”

Here are the lyrics. If possible, have your child review them with you (the middle part of each verse is the tricky part).

O Jesus, thank you for your love. O Jesus, thank you for your love.
Your gift of love within our hearts is love that has no end. O Jesus, thank you for your love.

O Jesus, thank you for your life. O Jesus, thank you for your life.
You gave your life for us, O Lord, and still you give yourself. O Jesus, thank you for your life.

O Jesus, thank you for our friends. O Jesus, thank you for our friends.
As friends we share our lives each day, we learn to love and care. O Jesus, thank you for our friends.

CUPE strike action

To our LDCSB families: The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) representing education workers across the province has given notice that they will be engaging in full strike action beginning Monday, October 7.

The LDCSB is currently examining the impact a full strike will have on school operations. Please monitor the LDCSB website, social media channels and SchoolMessenger for any updates.

We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time.

CUPE represents LDCSB support staff, including educational assistants (EAs), early childhood educators (ECEs), school office staff, custodial and maintenance staff, librarians as well as others.

On a personal note, if possible, when conversations arise regarding school staff, including teachers, ECEs, EAs, and secretaries, please do your best to voice your support if possible.
