Taller or Shorter Game

Take turns making up questions in this game that supports the concept of height. For example:

“Can you think of something that is taller than a tree?”

“Can you think of something that is shorter than a pencil?”

You can also modify the game to play with weight, width, etc

“Can you think of something that is heavier/lighter than a hippo?”

“Can you think of something that is wider/more narrow than a ruler?”

Measuring Around

Using our same measuring strings, we will be working on measuring around things. We will use our measuring strings to measure around a chair leg, an arm, a bowl, etc.

Find and measure something at home that is

  1. shorter than my string
  2. as long as my string
  3. longer than my string

You can have your child go even more in depth by being more precise when measuring things “longer than my string.” Help him/her measure to find out how many strings around the object is.

Adapted Mind – Online Math and Reading Game

Adapted Mind is an online Math and Reading game that is free for a month (you can play without signing up as well). It is levelled, and adapts to the learner who is playing (starts with easier questions, progresses with more challenging questions if the player is successful with his/her answers).

If you are looking for an alternative to Prodigy Math or Raz-Kids Reading, you might want to give it a try. It requires a parent’s email (and make up a password) to login.
