Monday November 30th 2015 – Updates

Mrs. Thibert will be away for this week and next. Today, Mrs. Roe, our Monday librarian, was kind enough to offer our class a book exchange time. All students were able to take home a book (we didn’t have a list of outstanding books available). We MIGHT be able to have another quick book exchange next Monday, so please send your books back a day early next week!

Here is a taste of our day today. See what concepts your child remembers, and/or what he/she remembers about them! (Personal space, Advent Wreaths, Christmas Concert Song, -ad Words)

Gym: Today, we worked on moving safely in our own personal space during our gym activities. We were race cars on a racetrack who had to follow the rules of the track. Our imaginations then took us to a car dealership where we test drove several types of cars, then choose one that we liked the best to drive (safely) off the lot!

Religion: The first week of advent has arrived! We set up our prayer ‘shelf’ with a purple advent cloth, and our classroom advent wreath. We also practised our song “Take a Walk to Christmas” for the Christmas concert. We added dance movements/actions to the first verse.

Language: We are continuing to work on “Star Sentences.” We know that every sentence: starts with a capital letter, is a complete idea, has a finger space between words, and ends with a punctuation mark. We also worked on spelling words with -ad in them today; “add,” “bad,” “glad,” “sad,” “mad,” “advent.” (Plus a few more.)

Months of the Year

A Grade One mathematics curriculum expectation is that each student names the months of the year in order.  We have been practising at school, and you can support your child’s learning at home by talking about the date each day (i.e. “Today is Wednesday, November the 24th, 2015”), reviewing the months of the year (we have been using a song to help us remember), and by talking about how many months it will be until Christmas, his/her birthday, Valentine’s Day, and/or any other important events coming up!

Thursday November 19, 2015

There were many sad faces and some tears as well as we said ‘goodbye’ to our friend, Aaron. Some of the things students will remember about Aaron are “Awesome,” “Astronomer/ astronaut,” “Rock Star,” “On level four always,” “Nice.”

A FRIEND
F is for the fun we had together
R is for the rewarding time we shared together
I is for the interesting moments we had
E is for the education we gained
N is for the never ending friendship that we’ll have
D is for the days we’ll never forget

Now after all this
We have learnt so much from you
And we want the world to know
How lucky we are
To have a friend like you!

Anti-Bullying Awareness Week

Thank you for all the hard work practising our song “We Are a Family” this weekend. Our Grade One class did a great job singing and performing the actions in front of the entire school!

As Madame would say, “felicitations!”

We have another assembly tomorrow at 11:00 (for the primary grades) as we continue to celebrate our Anti-Bullying Awareness Week.

Bullying Awareness Assembly on Monday

Wear your pink t-shirts on Monday!

Each class will present an anti-bullying message at our assembly on Monday. Our class will be singing “We Are a Family” with a spoken introduction and ending. We will all sing the chorus together (and bridge too), and each student is in a group for the verses.

Verse 1:  Erin, Reece, Leo, Noah, Asher, Aaron

Verse 2: Grier, Georgia, Maya, Ethan, Bennett, Michael

Verse 3: Briana, Lauren, Simon, Edward, Paul, Owen, Mackenzie

Homework this weekend is to practise the opening spoken words, to practise the chorus and the verse your child has been assigned to!

(Words are below, and sent home in agendas – for those musical folks, music is below as well!)

Spoken Introduction:

We are a family!

As a family, we share with each other.

As a family, we care for each other.

As a family, we are kind to each other.

As a family, we love each other.

We are a family!

Spoken Ending:

Be a buddy, not a bully!
